Dear Willie Hernandez,
First off, I want to apologize. When I was in 7th grade (11 years ago wow) you spoke to my school with Mavericks GM Donnie Nelson Jr on behalf of UNICEF. My account of that day can be read here in my letter to Mark Cuban. Basically I was being a punk because we were promised the Dallas Mavericks and they were not delivered. I can’t remember what you said to us (I think I made a point of not listening during that assembly), but I’m sure it was inspiring because you have an inspiring story to tell.
So with that off my chest, how are you doing? I see you’re still playing basketball and apparently doing it well. You have reached the highest levels of your sport, so what it next? Any plans to dominate another sport?
Well take care Willie. Hope to hear back!
PS: I believe we have a mutual friend in Alex Grunstein who is quite the wheelchair baller himself. Small world.
I never saw the letter. I’m sorry to hear that you were disappointed that none the NBA Mavericks showed up, I think I would have been upset myself if that was my goal. I see it this way if my story was even a little inspiring to one person I’ve at least help them.
