Dear Katie Uhlaender,
Way to represent North Texas in Sochi this Winter. I know you live in Kansas and Colorado now but you’ll always be a Texan to us. There is no escaping it…
I’m always surprised when I hear a Winter Olympian is from anywhere without snow and mountains (aside from the indoor skating events), especially for a niche event like Skeleton. How does a girl from Texas get into the sport? I’m pretty positive there isn’t a track in McGregor Texas… But seriously, you must have been a little scared the first time you went down the ice (on your stomach, face freaking first) because there’s ain’t no turning back once you start sliding. For some reason it looks less gnarly than Luge to me but still completely insane.
Well I’m sorry you missed the podium by .04 seconds but I hope you’re still proud of your accomplishment. At least now you can rage in the Olympic Village for the next week.
Take Care. ~Hayden
PS: I’ll be looking out for you in the weight room at Rio 2016. Here’s a song that always gets me turnt in the gym:
